From the start it was clear to me that I would not turn down Martin Donatsch's request to become his wine sponsor.

Wine Partnership

The winery and the "Ochsen" in Malans have been owned by the Donatsch family for over 125 years. Today they are both managed by Martin Donatsch in the 5th generation. After completing his professional training as a winemaker and working on well-known wineries in Australia, South Africa, Bordeaux and Spain, he set himself big goals back home in Malans: He is convinced that the Bündner Herrschaft is one of the best Pinot regions in the world and that its potential has certainly not yet been achieved. His passion belongs to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay!

Among other things, he vinifies the Chardonnay Unique line every year, which is one of the best Chardonnays in the world. For each vintage he looks for a suitable wine godparent whose signature adorns the respective vintage label.

When Martin Donatsch asked me if I would be interested in sponsoring the 2020 class, it was clear to me that I would not refuse. As a former landscape gardener and now a landscape architect, I have a huge interest in plants and nature.

Even if wine is not exactly the drink that one would associate with top-class sport, the joy about the request, my love for nature and the fascination for the production of the product prevailed.

In the meantime I have been able to visit the winery several times and experience the process of wine production from cutting and wemming in the vineyard to labeling and packaging the bottles. I admire how Martin Donatsch runs the business with almost endless passion and energy and I am happy to be a small part of the winery in the form of a signature on the Chardonnay Unique 2020!
